Maitland house has 28 ensuite single rooms over 3 floors. It’s easy for residents to get around with a lift to all floors and handrails throughout the home.
Residents meet in the open, light-filled dining room for meals, share cosy lounges and can take a turn about the garden – or just have a sit down in the heated gazebo.
As a charity, our main focus is improving the lives of older people – not boosting profit. So come on in, make yourself at home. In our Reading care home, our whole team has a person-centred approach to care. We really get to know our residents, so they all get the personalised care they deserve as part of a lively community.

Each bedroom is a lovely, light-filled space – freshly decorated and partially furnished. This includes a free-standing wardrobe and lockable bedside cabinet.
While the outlook changes from room to room, we make sure everyone’s privacy is protected. We absolutely love it when residents make their space feel like home by bringing along their own furniture bits and bobs, special ornaments and cherished pictures – it really does make all the difference!
For added reassurance, every room has a call bell system within easy reach, and for those who fancy a bit of internet browsing, our ‘silver surfers’ can hop online using our home-wide Wi-Fi.
Stop worrying about your loved ones eating properly. Our talented chefs rustle up a smashing selection of dishes made with fresh ingredients every day. Whether they have food intolerances or particular preferences, they’re in safe hands. Our brilliant kitchen team makes sure everyone’s culinary needs are catered for without any fuss.
You can rest assured that mealtimes here are always something special! And every so often, we push the boat out with themed lunches celebrating cuisines from around the world, national events, and traditional British occasions – any excuse for celebrating, really!
Maitland House is nestled in a quiet conservation area between Bath Road and Tilehurst Road. We’re less than a mile from Reading town centre and only 15 minutes from Junction 11 (M4) – so it’s easy for you to pop in for visits.
Residents can arrange to have a hairdresser appointment in the onsite salon, at a small extra cost.
Maitland House is connected to the local GP practice and our care teams look after regular medication needs. Residents can keep their own doctor,if they prefer and the doctor is able to keep them on, given their new location.
Registered Manager – Maitland House Care Home
Tracy has been working in care since leaving school in various areas of the care sector including working in busy hospital wards, learning difficulties and mental health although her preference is care of the elderly.
Tracy joined Abbeyfield in 2010 at Ridgway Court and has worked in all three Farnham homes. She joined as a Senior Care Assistant and with Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society’s support, she gained her NVQ5 and progressed to Deputy Manager of Wey Valley House in November 2014. In April 2021 Tracy made the short move over to Hatch Mill to become the Deputy Manager and in July 2022 she was promoted to Registered Manager of our Maitland House care home in Reading.
The Church has organised "songs of praise" on a monthly basis for many years at Abbeyfield and it's a joy to see the residents singing traditional hymns and enjoying a thought-provoking talk. On average 12 to 15 residents join us every month and we have had to move to the dining room from the lounge as numbers increase, we are grateful to the staff and to the activities organiser who are so helpful in bringing the residents to our meetings, we look forward to starting our time together again when circumstances allow.
My Aunt has lived at Maitland House since 2019 until she passed away recently. She especially loved the garden. She was very happy at Maitland House. The staff have always been very kind, courteous and professional. They have provided an excellent standard of care. I would not hesitate to recommend Maitland House.
My mother has been here for 1 year. Every time I have come to see her I am struck by the kindness, friendliness and happy disposition of all the staff here. My mum is very settled and happy here, because of the way she is looked after. If I was ever in the situation of having to go into a care home, I would happily choose this one.
