From Duke of Edinburgh students to retirees – and all the ages in between – we have a marvellous group of volunteers that are vital members of each home’s family.
Our volunteers share our philosophy of compassionate care that helps older people live well in vibrant environments. They are not just friends to the residents, they also do all sorts of things in our community, like:
It’s not just the residents that feel the benefit of extra helping hands and caring hearts – our staff and residents’ family and guests see them as an important part of our homes’ communities.
We often hear this. And people are surprised by how much value they can bring, in any of these volunteer roles:
Driving: Getting residents to doctor’s or hospital appointments, or running the odd errand
Gardening: Get those green fingers over to one of our homes and enjoy taking care of our lovely grounds with the residents.
Tech stuff: Answer questions about all things IT and run some group or individual training sessions to maximise residents’ use of tablets, virtual tables, and computers.
Having a good chat: Over a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake – what better way to swap life stories and build friendships?
Beauty skills: Use your expertise to give residents a pamper session.
Welcoming guests: Give residents’ families and guests a true Abbeyfield welcome when they come to visit.
Money making: Help organise and assist with local community events to raise money for the society.
Recruitment: Be a Society ambassador and help find new volunteers like you.
However you’d like to help, we’d love to hear from you. No amount of time is too small.
