Philosophy of Care
At Abbeyfield, we believe all our residents should enjoy the benefits and pleasure of living their lives as fully and as independently as they wish.
We recognise how big a wrench it can be leaving one’s own home and moving into care. So prior to coming to live in one of our homes, we assess all applicants to ensure we can meet their needs in full. We draw up a Care Plan tailored to each individual, covering medical care, dietary requirements and even personal likes and dislikes.
Our experience tells us that honesty and trust from both parties leads to a smoother integration and less emotional or physical stress. So residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their own Plan and we welcome the involvement of family and friends who may be able to add valuable input. A series of activities are implemented to maintain mental alertness, sustain self-esteem and support social interaction with other residents.
Comfortable Living Spaces
Our bedrooms are designed to give residents their own personal spaces. All come equipped with a wash basin, toilet and wardrobe while some include an adapted bath or shower as well.
The rooms are clean and well decorated and to help the transition from their home to ours, we encourage residents to bring small items of furniture, ornaments, pictures and photographs. In addition, we offer spacious, comfortable lounges, beautiful, well-maintained garden areas, wheelchair-friendly accessibility and large lifts.
Food to Suit Every Taste
We realise how important regular, nutritious and well-balanced meals are, so mealtimes are treated as a family event. Residents enjoy locally sourced, freshly cooked food chosen from a varied daily menu, taken in our homely dining areas or in the privacy of their own rooms.
Our on-site chefs and catering staff are always happy to accommodate personal food preferences whilst encouraging the intake of plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
We believe in allowing an occasional indulgence too, and fresh cakes and pastries are among our specialities! Although meals are taken at set times daily, light snacks are available 24 hours a day.
Lonely No More
Our founding principle at Abbeyfield was to banish the loneliness felt by many older people and we are proud to offer our residents an active, sociable living environment.
In our homes, there’s always something to do with games, quizzes, reading and entertainment, whilst in warmer weather, we organise days out shopping, visiting local places of interest and even the occasional picnic.
And of course, if there’s a birthday to celebrate we push the boat out, serving a special tea with cake, decorations and fun for all.
At all times, our passionate and highly qualified staff are on hand to help out to ensure every event is an enjoyable and rewarding occasion and they are often supported by our teams local volunteers who share our vision of care and companionship for older people.
We strive to make all residents feel at home from day one. Our aim is to provide a secure, relaxed and homely environment in which their care, well-being and comfort are paramount. Our trained carers work with individuals to ensure privacy and dignity is preserved at all times.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you how wonderful your staff are, I visited my father regularly and never saw anything but kindness and understanding from everyone who came into contact with him. They coaxed him, made him smile, but most importantly treated him with respect and consideration.
